The Abruzzo region is the most protected of Europe in regards to environmental laws. Almost half of the territory consists of national parks and protected areas. The Abruzzo national park is made up of 44.000 hectares which are under the tutelage of fauna and flora since 1923. Here Monte Marsicano soars. The national park of Gransasso, 150.000 hectares large, and the Monti della Laga offer a breathtaking view. Sirente-Velino regional park is near Aquila, the main city of this region. Aquila is a wonderful city, here it is possible to admire the National Museum of Abruzzo that is housed in a 16th century castle. The Abruzzo region also has a lot of seaside resorts to offer : Roseto degli Abruzzi, Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto Lido, Pineto, Francavilla al Mare, Giulianova but the most important is Pescara, Gabriele D’Annunzio’ s native city. Equally famous are Chieti where you can find the National Museum of Archaeology and Teramo with its Duomo. Traditional feasts such as “Festa dei Serpari” are always accompanied by traditional food (both fish and meat) and prestigious wines such as “Trebbiano” and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo”.
