Marche is gifted with a variety of natural landscapes. This region is renowned worldwide for its caves, such as the Gola di Frasassi, and Frasassi caves in Genga; here you can walk through a 1.5 km long path and admire the marvellous stalactites and stalagmites of the biggest cavern, Grotta del Vento. The only part of jagged coast is by the Conero Riviera, Regional Park, famous for its seaside resorts of Sirolo and Numana near Ancona. Ancona is the regional capital, famed not only for its artistic beauties but also for its port. Other attractive seaside resorts are Pesaro, Senigallia, Porto Recanati and Porto San Giorgio. The Ducal Palace of Urbino houses the National Gallery, where many masterpieces of Raffaello, Tiziano and Piero della Francesca are kept. Other significant sights are Sanctuary of Santa Casa in Loreto, Tolentino, spa town with the Basilica of San Nicola, Fermo and its Duomo, and Recanati, rich in medieval buildings and native country of the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi and the tenore Beniamino Gigli. Regional gastronomy is based on simple but tasty ingredients, such as mushrooms and tartufo. Main dishes are Vincisgrassi, Porchetta traditionally made, Seafood Brodetto and the well-known Olive all’Ascolana.
